Settli ("we", "us", "our") runs the Settli mobile app and website at settliapp.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
We built Settli to help expats and digital nomads settle into a new city. We keep data collection to a minimum and store most of what the app remembers on your device, not on our servers.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Onboarding choices: your display name (optional), city hub, move stage, interests, preferred language, and country of origin. These are stored locally on your device so the app can personalise your checklist and content. We do not require an account.
- Saved items and progress: businesses and guides you bookmark, and checklist tasks you mark complete. Also stored locally on your device.
- Email and messages: if you email us at hello@settliapp.com (for support, to report outdated information, or to request a business listing), we receive whatever you choose to send: your email address, message content, and any attachments.
Information collected automatically
- Website usage: when you visit settliapp.com, our hosting provider may log standard server data (IP address, browser type, pages viewed, timestamps) for security and reliability. We do not use advertising cookies.
- Content requests: the app downloads city guides, how-tos, and directory data from our API. These requests include your selected city hub, not your identity.
Analytics and crash reporting (anonymous mode)
We use Sentry (crash and error reporting) and PostHog (product analytics) in the mobile app and on the website. Both are configured for anonymous, privacy-first collection:
- We do not send your name, email, onboarding choices, saved items, or checklist progress to Sentry or PostHog.
- Crash reports and analytics events contain technical data only, such as device model, operating system version, app or site version, feature or screen names, and (for crashes) stack traces needed to fix bugs.
- PostHog may assign a pseudonymous identifier on your device or browser so we can count sessions and understand usage in aggregate. It is not linked to a login account, because Settli does not require one.
- We do not use PostHog for advertising, retargeting, or selling data. We do not combine analytics with third-party ad networks.
If you contact us by email, that correspondence is handled separately from Sentry and PostHog and is not automatically attached to analytics events.
Information we do not collect
- We do not ask for payment details. Settli is free.
- We do not operate consumer login accounts in the current version of the app.
- We do not sell your personal information.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide and improve the Settli app and website
- Personalise content on your device (checklist order, EU vs non-EU paths, saved items)
- Respond to emails and business-listing enquiries
- Fix bugs, monitor performance, and understand aggregate usage patterns through Sentry and PostHog
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
Legal bases (EEA and UK users)
Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Contract: to provide the app and website you use
- Legitimate interests: to improve Settli, keep it secure, respond to enquiries, and run anonymous crash reporting and analytics that do not identify you, balanced against your rights
- Consent: where required (for example, non-essential cookies on the website if we enable them beyond anonymous analytics)
Sharing and processors
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us run Settli, such as:
- Hosting and infrastructure (website and API)
- Email (when you contact us)
- Sentry: anonymous crash and error reporting
- PostHog: anonymous product analytics
These providers process data on our instructions and under appropriate agreements. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
Retention
- On your device: onboarding choices, saves, and checklist progress stay on your device until you delete the app or clear its data.
- Email: we keep support and business enquiries for as long as needed to handle them and maintain a reasonable record, then delete or anonymise them.
- Sentry and PostHog: crash and analytics data are kept for a limited period appropriate to debugging and understanding trends, then deleted or aggregated according to each provider's settings and our configuration.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal information, to object to certain processing, and to data portability. Because most app data stays on your device, you can delete it at any time by removing the app or clearing its storage.
For data held by Sentry or PostHog, contact us at hello@settliapp.com and we will action requests where we can. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Children
Settli is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
We and our service providers (including Sentry and PostHog) may process data in countries outside your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for transfers from the EEA or UK.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the date below. Continued use of Settli after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
